Water Wheel Creek
Timber Heritage Experience
...offers visitors a variety of options for a unique Tasmanian experience, including:
Tasmania's only working example of a timber tram-way, which is a central feature of regular tours given by the operator, John Cotton;
An accessible forest walk, rich in giant man-ferns and magnificent trees, complete with seats situated at regular intervals,
An intimate and hospitable
café
, nestled in a bush environment, serving a range of cakes, scones, sandwiches, coffees, tea and other drinks and...
An indoor heritage museum, show-casing restored pioneer machinery and other items that were essential to the bushman's trade of the early 1900's.
All of this enjoyed in a relaxed and friendly
country environment that can not be matched.
Natural Tasmanian Forest Experience
The forest walk takes the visitor into the diverse and magical world of the mixed Tasmanian forest.
The terrain is gentle and the walker is supported by a well defined track with hand railings and seating for people to rest and take in the serenity.
Shade is proviuded for most of the tour by a variety of well aged native Tasmanian trees and giant tree-ferns which form green leafy archways overhead.
Visitors are able to absorb the natural habitat that is home to a large number of native animals, birds, freshwater crayfish, and the platypus, although sightings of any of these animals can never be guaranteed of course.
Noteworthy natural features and examples of splendid Tasmanian trees, including Myrtle and Blackwood, are highlighted along the track with educational signage.
The forest experience provides a peaceful backdrop for a reflective stroll or an opportunity to examine in detail the delicate eco-system that supports forest life.
